Nathan graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2013. He had some extra big supporters cheering for him at graduation: his six year old daughter, wife and baby on the way. Shortly after graduation, Nathan started applying for countless positions, but was unsuccessful in landing a job. Nathan and his wife decided to apply for TANF and he feverishly took all the job ready classes the JOBS Program offered. He was motivated to keep trying. His DHS Employment Specialist recognized Nathan’s potential and recommended him for a Jobs Plus position in Goodwill’s Job Connections.
He was interviewed by the Job Connections Manager who loved his realistic views on how to approach social services and his compassion for helping others. He volunteered part time in the Job Connections Center and began his Jobs Plus position, which allowed him to work full time and support his family. After working in Job Connections for four months, a permanent position opened up at the Green Acres Job Connection Center for an Employment Specialist/Administrative Assistant and he was encouraged to apply. Nathan was the perfect fit and has been thriving in the position since the spring of 2014.
